Last Sunday’s fallout shelter hunt & future plans

Thanks to everyone who made it out to Sunday’s fallout shelter hunt! It was a pleasure meeting you. Although we didn’t find too many signs (the area is too gentrified and they’ve mostly been removed), we had a great time wandering around the area between U St and Dupont. We dropped by a few churches that formerly housed shelters–no luck, but one said they cleared out their basement a couple years back and threw out all the old shelter supplies! Better luck next time, maybe…

We discussed a number of ideas for future plans on Sunday, one of which is a DC library exhibit featuring original CD fallout shelter supplies. Speaking of which, check out our blog in a few days for updates on exciting finds in the Capitol complex!

For those who attended and those who couldn’t make it, if you’re interested in doing some more fallout shelter hunting on your own, let us know and we’ll help you figure out our online map: http://districtfallout.wordpress.com/your-neighborhood/

Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon Sunday, March 6. Stay tuned for details and feel free to contact us with your suggestions!
